Universities & Colleges

Leadership development for the people who turn institutional priorities into action

Universities and colleges depend on leaders who can navigate complexity, build trust across functions, and move important work forward—even when authority is limited and priorities compete. Department chairs, program directors, deans, associate deans, and administrative leaders are often asked to lead change, strengthen teams, and deliver results while balancing the needs of faculty, staff, students, and institutional strategy.

Insight Leadership Consulting provides practical leadership labs, not generic motivational sessions, for higher-education leaders who need to strengthen culture, influence, decision-making, and follow-through.

Through interactive keynotes, workshops, cohort modules, retreats, and facilitated team labs, Dr. Karalee Picard helps institutions develop leaders who can:

  • Influence across departments and up the chain without relying on title alone
  • Create team cultures where people speak honestly, contribute ideas, and address friction constructively
  • Turn complex conversations into clear decisions, ownership, timelines, and action
  • Guide people through institutional change with clarity, trust, and a people-first approach
  • Prepare emerging and advancing leaders for broader responsibility
Programs can be delivered individually or combined into a customized series for leadership-development cohorts, academic departments, administrative units, dean’s offices, and cross-functional teams.

Build the leadership bench your institution needs

Whether you are developing future department chairs, strengthening a dean’s leadership team, preparing leaders for change, or helping a cross-functional group regain alignment, the work is tailored to your institution’s goals, culture, and constraints.

Programs for Higher Education

— Gives leaders a disciplined way to challenge assumptions, align initiatives to institutional priorities, clarify ownership, and move stalled work forward

Program 6:

Leading Change in Complex Organizations

These programs can be beneficial alone, and I have bundled them for an advanced or senior leadership program that includes
leadership identity, culture, and decision-making for organizations preparing leaders for broader responsibility.
It gives large organizations and teams working in complex organizations a practical way to strengthen leadership
readiness, deepen bench strength, and build confidence in people they are counting on next.

A Practical Example: Clarkson College

In March 2026, Clarkson College hosted Dr. Karalee Picard for a workshop then titled Strategic Planning and Decision-Making. The program helped a six-person cohort connect their work and ideas to the institution’s existing strategic plan, strengthen their decision-making, and communicate recommendations in ways senior leaders could recognize as relevant and valuable.

All six participants presented an idea aligned with the strategic plan to Clarkson’s president and directors, who found value in every brief. The workshop is now represented by the more focused program title, Strategic Thinking & Decision-Making with the INTEL Framework™, and Clarkson College has invited Dr. Picard back to facilitate a workshop for its senior leadership team.

Whether you are developing future department chairs, strengthening a dean’s leadership team, preparing leaders for change,
or helping a cross-functional group regain alignment, the work is tailored to your institution’s goals, culture, and constraints.

Dr. Karalee Picard brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in defense intelligence, organizational change, and mission-driven environments. As an Associate Certified Coach, she also brings a thoughtful, question-driven facilitation approach that helps leaders surface practical insights and take meaningful action.
